Back to School--Ideas, Recipes & Supplies

"Whoa, whoa, I gotta go....back to school" (Grease 2 anyone?!? LOL) So, it's that time. In Phoenix my kids are in their 4th week already, so we've been thru the back to school shopping, haircuts, and the boo-hooing that I do. Right before I do the flying leaps across the living room... HAHAA!! I wept and I leapt, and here's a little collection of some essential oil essentials for back to school with links to buy goodies on Amazon.

My new favorite thing is making these rollerball recipes! I've been an oiler for a few years and I've been guilty of over oiling. My friend Terrie Martin is one of THE most knowledgeable people I know in this field and I learned from her, that we can actually set ourselves up to become sensitive to oils by using too much. And it's easy to do, Neat is fine for LOTS of oils LOTS of the time, but to decrease the risk of reaction dilution is a great idea. Not to mention that our oils go MUCH further when we dilute. Here are some goodies:

I thank Tracey Campbell of TLC One Drop At A Time for the many recipes and graphics she shares, including this Focus blend. I am truly blessed to be on her team! I love this recipe SO much and like to go heavy with extra citrus. Someone asked me about exact number of drops and I say, add what you like until it smells so good your eyes roll back in your head!

Another thing I want to share is that ANY roller recipe can be adjusted to a diffuser recipe and any diffuser recipe can be made into a roller. Remember that!! Check these out...they look AWESOME!

I love roller bottles even more because of this duct tape idea. I get to beautify, personalize and protect!! Hmm, I mentioned shatterproofing, but I'm also protecting my EO from light, too. #Winning! (Duct tape = insurance! LOL)

(24 of these for $15 at the time of this post!)

16 oz organic fractionated coconut oil

One thing I am already missing...is THE SLEEP!! I do like myself better when I get up early and get things accomplished, though. A bedtime routine helps immensely. I'm taking away my own naughty night time habits one by one. LOL

If you need glass spray bottles, (12) 2 oz blue glass bottles are only $11!

Or pick up a couple 8 oz bottles here: http://amzn.to/2vWnNc2

Enjoy a few more awesome back to school diffuser recipe ideas. :-) (Don't forget, you can adjust any of these for a roller as you see fit, too!)

Isn't THIS a great idea? Big thanks to Bottle of Thyme! Be sure to visit & like her page. She's AWESOME!

"Such a great idea from a teacher.

She used the small/short, plastic spice containers that have the holes in the lid. They are a great size and it doesn't matter if they get dropped. She put drops of YL essential oils on a cotton ball and placed one in each container. She created a variety of them.

She had students who loved certain scents, but despised others. She would let them choose favorites to have at their desks. Some kids didn't want to have them ever. Others loved having the personalized oil at their desk as much as possible. So it was nice to have options for them. The favorites were lemon, peppermint, Joy and Thieves. The possibilities are endless."

If the plastic jars are hard for you to come by, they're available on Amazon, here:

DIY Organic Spray Deodorant?!? POST 4

Did you know there are people that don't stink? LOL! I don't know them, but I know they exist. One thing is for sure--they ain't me!

We've been working on a natural deodorant series and talked about using Thieves Dentarome Ultra toothpaste as an option in our first post, using LIME in our second post, and using Young Living's deodorant option in our 3rd post. (That was SO cool, wasn't it?!? Links are ahead) This---this ROCKED my world!

I recently had a member ask me what she could use to make a deodorant SPRAY...hmmm...for a MAN....HMMM! So the spray is a new and genius idea all on it's own, and my mind is already whirling around on that one, but then on top of that I'm picturing--hairy man pits! Lol. And rubbing toothpaste around in there just aint workin'. LOL!!

Thanks to April Bouman's request, I experimented and came up with two SPRAY recipes I like and am glad to share with you 'cause, guess what? THEY WORK! And I might be done! Done with 'the search'. Woohooo!! :-D

In the first version of spray deodorant I used a 1 ounce spray bottle with about a teaspoon of Thieves Dentarome Ultra toothpaste squirted down in the bottom. (About 2 - one inch strips of toothpaste) I filled it halfway with Thayer's lavender witch hazel and swirled & shook it well to mix it all up. Then added @ 8 drops of Young Living Purification and 2 Tea Tree, filled the rest of it with water and voila! Spray deodorant! :-) This is the version I gave to my kids. They like it A LOT and it works perfectly for them.

For me, I found something I like even better...

The second version came about from a tip that my Aunt Pat shared with me. We were chatting about the blog, technology and the way things USED to be and she said that in a pinch, vodka will work as a deodorant. (WOW) That's such a smart idea, isn't it? (Although, she thought it was a waste of vodka. LOL!!) But it's so simple and safe, and who knew? That's GOLD! So that's what I used in recipe #2--no water--and it's my favorite! Yay, thanks for the tip, Aunt Pat!

May I please remind you to treasure those people that got through life before the commercial takeover of American personal care products, and to pick their brains!? They're full of wisdom, so let's share it!

This version rocks--it's the driest!

If possible, I recommend a GOOD quality vodka so you don't smell all alcoholly, AND because we appreciate the value that comes from good quality ingredients. (wink, wink) YAAAAAAAS!!! It's SO easy and I am totally celebrating this!

Now that I got you all excited, here comes my public service announcement. Hee hee. Nothing works for EVERYbody, this won't be any different and here's what else you should know:
  • I must prepare you for the fact that this is a WET alternative, and as weird as it sounds, some squirts will come out thicker than others. It takes a minute or 2 for these to dry, or you might want to pat your pits dry with a washcloth if your in a hurry.
  • You'll want to take all the same precautions that you would if you used white deodorant and wore a black shirt. (OBVS)
  • It's not going to work like commercial, poison-crap deodorant. :-) You might need a second spritz (or just straight EO) mid-day, to make it to the end of the day without 'stank', we like to say.
  • Another thing to look out for is, when depressed, the fine-mist sprayer may stick for a moment in the down position before it comes back up. I simply help it along by moving it up with my finger after each pump. (It's 2 pumps total--no big whoop!)
  • This also means you should you shake the bottle well before each use. The deodorant--er, toothpaste, will settle at the bottom of the bottle and congeal. So, shake well!!

Because of the thicker liquid going through the sprayer I wanted to try out a larger spray nozzle too. So let me save you that trouble...don't bother. That is called shock and awe...

But another good option for application might be a roll-on bottle, like we used in our favorite (cuz-it's-so-easy)
sunscreen recipe.

30 ML yellow glass roll-on bottle:  http://amzn.to/2boKI3I
30 ML pink glass roll-on bottle: http://amzn.to/2bxDMTx

Click on the links above or right on the pictures to connect to Amazon (affiliate) for those and other roll-on bottle options. (And oh my gosh, I am saving A LOT of money! Deodorant is 7 or 8 bucks! Every time! For one stinkin' stick! #SRSLY)

As a person who has seen a lot of cancer in young people it's very valuable to me to know the ingredients in this won't harm a body. For my 10 year old daughter I decorated a 1 oz. spray bottle with Minion duct tape and she LOVES it! Hee hee.

AND I just found out that my older (and hairier) son will actually use this, too. You already know that's a huge 'score', right? I'm also saying - don't shy away from this natural solution just because you're Greek! #Aack #SoHairy #TheStruggleIsReal Or, because you're a man... #MenWantBetterProductsToo

**In case you were wondering, regular toothpaste will not work for a myriad of reasons, nor would you want it to, so please--just don't. If you don't know the answer to 'why use essential oils?' I'll sum it up for you like this--essential oils are good for balancing your whole body while being ANTI-everything bad. So, nothing that stinks will live.

On Schwetty Oils: Besides Purification and Tea tree, some other oils to try are ylang ylang (for it's balancing qualities) as well as lavender. (because--obvs) Also in the running for killing stank are eucalyptus, cistus (Rose of Sharon), bergamot and cedarwood. Oils can be diluted into your favorite mixture, into a carrier oil, or applied neat - in the pits!

Do you like the little flowers? HaHA! I like that kind of irony. They're Martha Stewart Dogwood Stickers: http://astore.amazon.com/anobyabb-20/detail/B002YIZ8RQ

http://amzn.to/2bx9Zdr 6 blue 1 oz glass bottles for $6.99 at time of post

I like this spray option SO much I gave up on making my own stick deodorant. (But someday if I have time---I do have a great idea. :-)

These options are inexpensive and practical enough to experiment with until you find the perfect rhythm and perfect solution for you. Don't forget, what you choose to put on your body today ends up in the Earth tomorrow...

DIY Chest Rub!

Vick's VapoRub is a pretty common product. It's been a staple in my medicine chest since I was small. (Like back in the 1900's!) Since it's been around forever--it must be good, right? Well, I would advise the reader to do their own research.

You will find some say ingredients in Vick's VapoRub can irritate the airways and increase mucus production. Which could be significant in infants and children under 2 who have small airways to begin with. And when those pipes are already inflamed from a cold or other infection, a little bit of extra inflammation and mucus may narrow them more.

More disturbing, Petrolatum, one of the ingredients in Vick’s, may be linked to cancer. Although there is controversy over whether or not that is true, (research it--I like Dr. Weil's explanation) there really is NO NEED to put essential oils in a petroleum base because coconut oil works great! Extra dose of common sense, anyone?

To protect your family why not make this homemade chest rub made with organic coconut oil and eucalyptus essential oil? :-) Not only do you know what goes in it, you don't pay a huge markup for a safe product. Dollar for dollar, DIY makes tons of cents. And sense. And scents!

Eucalyptus contains several compounds with anti-harmful organism properties. :-) One of the main compounds is called cineole and it can help the body fight upper respiratory problems. It seems silly to me to take essential oils, which are fantastic in their own right, and put them in petroleum jelly! No thanks. That's just as bad as all the chemical processing that's done to our precious food--it's better the way God made it. It's high time we pay attention to what goes ON the body, because that ultimately goes IN the body too.

If using on a small child you may want start with a bigger dilution ratio and stick to FEET for application. We don't want to overwhelm little lungs! Oils are absorbed and get where they need to go via the feet, too. We have a ton of nerve endings down there, and isn't the human body AMAZING!? I marvel at it ALL the time!

Store balm in a glass container like this:

http://amzn.to/2blF0hH 2 for $10 unique jars (totes dorbs!)
You may click on the links to order items from Amazon (affiliate) or get a bigger batch of containers for better price with something like these (also Amazon):

http://amzn.to/2bBoET4 12 clear glass 2 oz. jars @ $17

The above recipe is for a balmy salve more like we're used to (and it will smell deliciously similar!) but another option is adding your EO to a glass roll-on bottle with a fractionated (liquid) coconut oil. You can use less in your mix depending on who you make it for. It's always best to do your own research and do what's best for you and your family, but I can only stand behind Young Living's essential oil. ;-)

                                       :-/  NOT FEELING GREAT?

There are some AWESOME natural remedy choices these days. I am saving a TON of money on things I used to get at CVS and Walgreen's and only see my doctor... well... I miss him! Your chances of hearing about Thieves tea are getting better all the time, but have you heard about THIS one?!!

Is your head congested? It's got to be a top ten hated feeling! This link has a video you NEED for a good life. SRSLY, save this information, it's good WITH OR WITHOUT the essential oil! --- > Need a lil help with drainage?

BE a part of the shift away from toxic mass made junk (that enriches the lives of CEOs) and toward all that is naturally good! This is people helping people. If you don't have your own Young Living account, why not? No SSN is required and it probably costs less than you think! Let's change the statistics, friends!

Upcycling Ningxia Red bottles :-)

Recently the question of what to do with empty Ningxia bottles came up and I thought I'd just share which answers came up as well!  What do you do with your Ningxia bottles?

Lamps were mentioned, and there are many ways to do a lamp...

Making glasses out of them was mentioned as well, although we don't know anyone who has personally done it. This short video showing a glass cutting tool, specifically for recycling old glass came up, too...

Here's a real tutorial if you're interested, followed by another on making pendant lights (Oh em gee, that'd be so cool!):

Another idea. Very pretty.

And here's one from my friends Denise and Liesl that we could all use today!

"Anyone else hold onto their used Ningxia Red bottles and not know what to do with them?  😜 I filled mine with water to keep next to each of my diffusers throughout the house." That's so smart. I love that we get to share ideas with each other!

Pretty little vignette, isn't it? :-)

The 'got oils?'decal is available for purchase. Click here: http://www.quotethewalls.com/store/WsDefault.asp?One=716
