Torey's Homemade Granola with Thieves Essential Oil

A sweet young lady named Torey Jarrett joined the Anointed by Abba team and impressed us right away with a great DIY recipe that would work SO well for those of us sending kids back to school--Homemade Granola, using Thieves oil. How smart is that?!!

She posted about this on her Facebook page - it's her first time making it, and one of her friends asked: What kind of oil did you use with it?

Torey answered, "I melted coconut oil and for a healthy cinnamon flavor I added 5 drops of Thieves essential oil. It's easy! Made a jar and a half. If you don't have essential oils you can substitute for 1 tsp cinnamon. Tastes so much better, as is so much better for you, with the oils though. Happy baking!"

And that's the truth. A dried spice will offer our bodies some health benefits, but many more are made readily available to the body with essential oils. Since oils are a lipid and our bodies' cells are lipid-based, this allows nutrients to easily flow from the oils into our cells and make an exchange, giving them their good stuff and carrying away the bad stuff. :-) It's as if we were designed to gain and maintain health from plants! (Ya think?!? LOL) Thieves oil combines the power of several essential oils in one blend, and it's a real powerhouse! What the oils do for the plants, they can do for our bodies. There are several constituents in the oils that make up Thieves. If you'd take a minute to search what just one of them does, I'm sure you'll be impressed. Try googling eugenol. :-)

Heating essential oils for extended periods of time kills what's good in them. We don't want to do that, so it's best to add them as a flavor after the cooking or baking is done. Warming is fine though! Here's how Torey did it:

And here's the finished product!

A PS to this is homemade vanilla extract is so easy to make! It's a SIN not to tell you! If you really want to know what's in the foods you eat, you're way ahead of the health curve... Here's how to make your own vanilla extract.
