The Thieves dishwashing powder has mixed reviews. I had my own experience with dishes coming out 'powder coated' and learned I was simply using too much. One of my dear friends advised me to READ the package (LOL) and I discovered that 1/4 scoop was both sufficient and effective. I also added a green rinse aid (see below) and was finally happy with the results! Seriously, less IS more, especially if you have a water softener!
For a while the Thieves dishwashing powder was out of stock, and this is what I shared with folks who follow our page while waiting for it to come back in...
They absolutely ate it up, because...who knew?!? You can actually use anywhere from 5 drops up to a 1/4 teaspoon of Thieves Dish Liquid in your dishwasher, (you're gonna want to click that link :-) and for future reference...it works really well.
These are the first tips I got on green dishwashing from my friend, Terrie Martin. :-)
DIY DISWASHER soap: 'Best to date for us. The dishes and pans have come out clean, sparkling (no water spots), and coffee/tea stains are handled. And bonus, the inside of the dishwasher is cleaned too.'
My review on that recipe: So, I tried it and... The first thing I noticed when I came home to a finished dishwasher cycle was the smell of Thieves HHC. Delightful! I opened the dishwasher, not expecting too much, but I'm stunned actually. I washed all my bowls that I mixed sugar scrubs and balms in, but even when I don't wash a greasy, oily load they're NEVER sparkling like this. I AM SO SOLD!!!!!!!
Terrie updated: I have gotten lazy in my DIY and have simply been using the Thieves HHC straight out of the bottle, undiluted. I use 1 TBS and split it between the two soap receptacles in my dishwasher. Works great for me! LOVE the way my kitchen smells while the dishes are being washed.

So - there are several tips to put on your non toxic dishwashing option list! We can mix up ANY of these ingredients, a million different ways, folks. The options are limitless and you can find what works best for you.
Here are a few more must have tips:
Both Thieves HHC concentrate and white vinegar in the "jet dry" dispenser for the dishwasher work exceptionally well! The vinegar and EO was what helped me cut out the powder residue when using the Thieves dishwashing powder. ;-) I think a blend of the recipe from Odds and Evans, below, and undiluted Thieves HHC works best for me.

Any way you slice it, reducing the toxins we put in our water supply is a very responsible thing to do! The amount of chemicals we use by habit is simply unnecessary and we'd be FOOLISH to think we aren't harming anything by doing that.
BE a part of the shift away from toxic junk and toward all that is instinctively good. We are helping to change the statistics that need changing! If you're not a member of Young Living, why not? It's easy and less expensive than you realize.
