Vacuum diffuser?

Back to school vacuuming... This is how we roll. A couple drops on cotton balls in the collection canister and BOOM - the vacuum is a diffuser. Hmm... Methinks each kid deserves their own 'Thieves therapy session'!

Lemon oil & Thieves cleaner to the rescue!

So I love this top. I found it in Poland. In Poland, I realized how much America is revered. I wanted to find a souvenir shirt for each family member with something written in Polish, but 99.9% of everything on the clothing there was in English! Lots of American flags, too. :-) It's hard to see, but this says "What's Up Dudes". In fact it's SO hard to see, that's the only reason I bought it! LOL. Lots of clothes there had American expressions on them that if worn by me, would look totally ridiculous, but if worn by a Polish American-wannabe, would be totally adorable! I can't pull off phrases like, "Wild Thing" or "Pretty Princess". So, I fell in love with this top in a tiny shop in a city that's special to me, Ostroda. I know I'm not going to get another one in this lifetime! Learn with me...

Lesson 1: Do not dump Peace & Calming on the back of your neck while wearing white!

I had no idea I had done that until I got undressed for bed, hours later and the stain was dry. I was a little heartsick until I remembered...I always had the power!

Lesson 2: Fight oil WITH oil!

From our blog leading up to a series on laundry secrets, I remembered the tip lemon + peroxide  = bleach. I saturated the stain area with lemon oil and used an old toothbrush dipped in Thieves cleaner and worked it in. Then added a few drops of peroxide and worked that in. I let it all soak in enough water just to stay wet. I came back 15 minutes later, wrung the area out and about half of the green color came out, so I knew... I was on the right track. :-) I kept repeating, and once 70% of the color was gone (3 times) I threw it in the wash with all the other whites. I added about 30 drops lemon oil, 2 cups of peroxide, a capful of Thieves and 1/2 cup Arm & Hammer laundry booster. BOOM...

Stain is gone and nice fresh white clothes that smell like lemony heaven! This top is off white, BTW. My white whites are gleaming!

PS--Trivia for ya.... The reason Peace & Calming Oil blend is green is due to Blue Tansy oil mixing with Tangerine oil which is a light orangey yellow....Yellow + Blue = Green. Yowlsah! PPS--If you have a colored oil from another company, chances are it's not a natural coloring...Eeek!

DIY Non toxic Whiteboard Cleaner!

If you're like me, you might be annoyed that at the beginning of the year, schools these days are requesting we send in cleaners that we are NOT excited about. Cleaners with bleach are already known to irritate asthma, and how many of us have kids that suffer with asthma and allergies? LOTS. If you didn't know and you find it hard to believe, I understand. That was me! Feel free to search info yourself or check out this Reuters article.

A big part of our issues these days is the fact that SO many chemicals are released into the enclosed spaces we live and work in. We spend like 80% of our time indoors! Believe it or not, opening windows and airing out the room often is better for us than stale air. I wouldn't have guessed that a few years ago, but now I know different and now I know why that's true.

Chemicals in household and commercial cleaners, in our carpet, furniture, laundry products, air fresheners, personal care products - like perfume and lotion, contain chemicals that are either not sufficiently tested, or they flat out contain things we know are bad for us and our environment!! It's kinda cray cray. What can we do? Open windows and get a fresh batch of air inside when you can, diffuse Young Living Essential oil often, and begin to detoxify things that are in your control.

I sent a bottle of this natural white board cleaner to school with my daughter and the requests began to roll in for more. LOL. It's effective, smells AWESOME and it's actually GOOD for our environment!

How simple is this???

If you're thinking Young Living products are too expensive, that's not necessarily true. I used to feel the SAME way and I have learned how wrong I was!  :-) I make TONS of stuff that I used to clip coupons for and go to the store and buy. They were making me ill for starters, and now I save money and time by doing the DIY's with a couple key ingredients. Young Living Thieves cleaner, baking soda, vodka and lemon oil. If I would have known this when I had little kids I could have saved lots of time and money. And not have memories of my babies drooly mouths gnawing on a corner of a table that was cleaned with Pledge. (click for an alternative DIY recipe)

Check out these prices for wholesale members... Lemon oil (at 85 drops per 5 ml bottle) works out to be .07 a drop! Only .04 per drop for a 15 ml bottle (250 drops). If you're not a wholesale member you can STILL pick up a 15 ml bottle and only pay .06 a drop right here: bit.ly/BuyYoungLivingOnline

Lemon oil has a ton of other uses too. It's nature's Goo Gone!

If you are interested in learning more about a wholesale account, you can read about it here. bit.ly/AnointedByAbba It's a great deal!

Check out more recipes below. Plus--how to make your bottle shatterproof!

Thieves cleaner is amazeballs... If you don't know the story of Thieves you can check that one out here: (note--this recipe is for a DIY Thieves Spray, which is a great surface sanitizer, and it happens to be ingestible - great for scratchy throats!) Worth the read! Thieves cleaner is something worth the purchase. It's super concentrated, so one bottle makes 15-30 bottles of household cleaners, depending on what you're making. It's a cleaning staple that smells like cinnamon heaven!

Plus, if you google the benefits of cinnamon bark, rosemary, lemon and clove oils, you might be surprised enough to use swear words...it's that good. Nature knows what it's doing!!! Not only are you killing germs, you're boosting YOUR system, plus the systems of your family AND helping the environment. (Man boobs won't go away until we quit putting endocrine disruptors into our products, because they end up in our water and therefore our food supply) Anyhoo!!! This is SUCH a great idea. OK, I must make one more point... Plus, you're not lining the pockets of big business CEOs! In case you didn't know, they do not have our best interests in mind. You can google Johnson & Johnson lawsuits as well as the Honest company. It's pretty sad actually, but it is what is. What we CAN do is change that by not buying their stuff. :-) Help a small business owner instead! And on THAT note, I must mention--if you know a Young Living representative be sure to contact them to help you order. :-) OK, now I'm done. LOL!

LOTS more back to school ideas are in here! DIY's, diffuser recipes, and be sure to look for the 5th picture in that blog to get a great tip for making your glass bottles shatterproof!

Young Living Savvy Mineral Makeup Line - makeovers, tutorials, downloads & product info

HOW EXCITING that Young Living now offers makeup! HUGE thanks to the sweet Melissa Poepping for bringing this natural, toxin free, safe, health- promoting skincare and mineral makeup to the masses! Woohooo! For many moms I know, this is the last piece needed for a completely toxin free lifestyle. So, heck yeah!

Why choose Young Living’s Mineral Makeup? You mean, besides cuz Melissa Poepping made it?!? (She's a Young living rock star. Just sayin'...) Because all these great makeup products are formulated without talc, which we now know can be a cancer causing agent, and without other ingredients known to be toxic to the human body, yet they're commonly found in personal care products like bismuth, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, and synthetic dyes & fragrances.

If those aren't reason(s) enough, this makeup is also:
Richly pigmented
Has buildable color that blends beautifully to create different looks
Emphasizes natural beauty
Has long-lasting, all-day wear
Ideal for sensitive skin
Made with mineral-based ingredients
Is vegan friendly and
Not tested on animals

Perfect checklist. Think makeup that clean can't possibly be awesome? It totally CAN! Check out my Diamond leader Andrea Lahman before and after her Savvy minerals makeover!

Is she not GORGEOUS?! Yeah she is!!! But our makeup made her even more sparkly! Check out our line of GREEN and CLEAN makeup created by one of our very own Young Living members! (who listens to their people anymore? YL does!)

I know LOTS of us are curious about selecting the best foundation shade. Check out these tips:

Young living Savvy Minerals Foundation:

Young Living Mineral foundation is very forgiving. You can lighten or darken it by layering or blending the shades together. It won't feel heavy, be cakey, fill in wrinkles or lines like I've heard other mineral makeups can do. Some ladies have ordered several shades to customize their colors year round. Lighter for the winter months, darker for summer months etc., and you can always mix and blend foundations and bronzers for your own perfect match. Here are some of those tips...

Check Your Veins – Push your sleeves up and look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. Are they blue or green? If they look more blue, you likely have cool undertones. If the veins look greenish, you’re warm.

The Jewelry Trick – Think about whether you look better in silver or gold jewelry. Typically, women with cool undertones look better in silver and platinum metals, and warm-toned women look better in gold.

The Neutral Test – Think about what neutral shades flatter you best. Do your skin, eyes, and face look better in bright white and black hues, or ivory, off-whites, and brown/tan shades? The first means you’re probably cool-toned and the latter means you're a warm. Check this video for more tips on effective application of Young Living Savvy Minerals foundation:

Eye and Hair Color – Your natural eye and hair colors can help figure out your coloring. Customarily, cool people have eyes that are blue, gray, or green and have blond, brown, or black hair with blue, silver, violet and ash undertones. (I'm cool!!!) Conversely, warm-toned women usually have brown, amber, or hazel eyes with strawberry blond, red, brown, or black hair. Their hair tends to have gold, red, orange, or yellow undertones.

The Sun’s Effects – When you’re out in the sun, does your skin turn a golden-brown, or does it burn and turn pink first? If you fit into the first category, you’re warm-toned, while cool tones tend to burn. Take a look at what our foundations look like on skin right here:

How to get the best, most even coverage:

Cleanse your face with Young Living’s ART Cleanser, then prime it with the ART Renewal Serum and ART Light Moisturizer to ensure you have a clean canvas and something for the minerals to adhere to. Then, spray your foundation brush with the Misting Spray and apply all over. Blend with the bronzer if you’d like to do some contouring.

Savvy Minerals Misting Spray by Young Living. I'm gaga over this. Kinda ordered 3 bottles to be sure I have some!?! LOL

For whatever it's worth, I hit my face with a shot of the misting spray as a makeup setting spray and I look and feel AWESOME! Drawing LOTS of compliments on my dewy complexion. :-)

Additionally, The Farmacist, AKA Dr. Lindsay Elmore, shared a super duper cool tip with us in her makeover video. She makes up a lip balm that is multi-functional, and she learned back in her pageant days that applying her lip balm to her face under her eyes, on cheeks, forehead and blending that in before applying the mineral makeup helps it to adhere to her face. Cool, huh!??

Veil – To Set Your Makeup

Complete your flawless look with a touch of mineral veil setting powder, AKA Diamond Dust. A sheer, mineral-based formula, Veil’s luminizing formula applies smoothly and easily, creates highlights, and blurs fine lines and pores for a glowy, airbrushed finish for all skin tones. Wear our mineral veil powder on its own for a sheer, no-makeup look or over your foundation for a more polished look.

Ideal for sensitive skin, this long-lasting mineral veil finishing powder absorbs excess oil to keep your foundation in place, while keeping you looking radiant. Veil is sheer coverage that does some heavy lifting.

Combine the bronzer, foundation, and veil to create contouring, but that's not necessary for a simple, bright, clean look. Check out the video tutorial:

Please note, makeup cannot be returned for a refund, but the best part of mineral makeup that it is SO versatile. It's easily blendable, it's buildable and totally customizable, so adding another shade of foundation to your collection can make your color exactly what you want it to be! Remember contouring or simply adding bronzer can likely give you what you're looking for.

Savvy Minerals by Young Living Bronzer Shades:

Gives skin a healthy, sun-kissed glow
Enhances tanned skin
Great for contouring
Buildable color
Long-lasting, all-day wear
Ideal for sensitive skin
Made with mineral-based ingredients

The Young Living Savvy Minerals Multi-tasker!

What? We NEED this in our lives! ALL IN ONE! Multi-tasker brown can be used for contouring, as a powder eyeliner, as a brow filler, as an eye shadow or even to cover gray hair! WOW!! Very cool, right? We can also use it as a liquid eyeliner by mixing it with 50/50 witch hazel and water!

That's a true multi-tasker! ZERO toxins!

So many ways to win here, folks! Check out THIS makeover from the Healthier Hannah page...

WOW!!! Want to learn ways to make gorgeous eyes? Here are some eye makeup tips...

(click here to read what's in a typical lip product and why you want to avoid it!)

Savvy Minerals by Young Living Makeup Brush Set

I was surprised to hear that synthetic brushes are what Melissa suggested, but after I understood that one reason is because they don't have a makeup absorbing cuticle like real hair does, it made more sense. They're also easier to wash & dry and last longer so, 'nuff said!

Mascara is coming this month, plus a lot more makeup over the next two years, thanks to YL's partnership with industry rock stars!!

Mascara is on the way! Plus, if you love Melissa Poepping's mascara hack (video here) you might wanna put your 'diamond dust' on a disposable dry wand instead of your 'wet' wand...just an idear!

Here is Melissa before and after doing her own makeup!

Ladies & gents, I have to tell you... at Convention 2016, "Sweet Savvy" (the name of Melissa's new 'baby', her very own mineral makeup line which has now been acquired by Young Living) this makeup was pretty new, and Melissa had just launched her teen line. I saw her ahead of me on the way to General Session with my 10 yr old girl in tow, and called out to her to ask if my daughter could say 'hello'.

Let me tell you - she stopped time on a street corner to engage with my daughter, Katy, and she made her feel SO special! (That's what we need to remember as we go forward in this business, is to take time to love on PEOPLE!) Melissa Poepping modeled that for us and is one of THE most genuinely lovely people I've had the pleasure to meet. Maybe because she is just like you and me!? I feel SO blessed that our company still has that 'small town' kind of feeling and they promoted one of our own, who developed her own great idea. YAY, Young Living!

Young Living has graciously given us a color swatch card, shown below. Members - you may download this image for yourself.

< --- Pin it, people!!! (Thank you Lemon Peony for the beautiful image!)

In summary, I don't think I said "Made with natural ingredients, not tested on animals, formulated without parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, bismuth, talc, synthetic fragrances, or synthetic colorants" enough. :-)

If you're not sure WHY getting these items out of your skincare is a big deal, consider that heavy metals are often in our makeup and have been linked to things like brain fog and later dementia & Alzheimer's. Parabens, used for preservation on the store shelf, have been found in breast cancer tumors. Johnson & Johnson recently paid out big money to folks who developed cancer after using their baby powder containing talc, after knowing it was causing cancer.

There's a lot to navigate out there! But the good news is that today there are lots of options for safe and healthy, because 'We  The People' are SHARING our information, friend to friend and CREATING better products than big box companies! Check out ingredients at the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics site and Environmental Working group's Skin Deep database to search your cosmetics by name and see how they fare.
