Best Spring Diffuser blends 2017

What do I diffuse when I'm blogging on a time crunch? Hee hee. How about Build Your Dream and Stress Away? Be warned... you might become obsessed!

I have SO many things I want to share with you! I am in love with Young Living Essential Oils and what they have done for me and my family.

One of the big changes I've made in the last two and a half years is getting rid of synthetic scents. I am still in the process of getting rid of everything that science is showing us is toxic to the human body and environment, so I hope some of you feel better knowing that this lady has been working on going green a long time and she's not done!

Spring Cleaning feels different to me this year. In addition to the many non toxic cleaners I ENJOY using, I'm ready to get rid of things I wouldn't let go of in the past and we iz purging like never before....There'll be a blog!

Lately I'm SO in love with Rosemary essential oil. It's one of the oils in Young Living Thieves blend and has such a rich history. Essential oil is the plant's defense mechanism and it helps the plant achieve it's goal of survival and spreading it's seeds, and in our bodies, the oils can do some of those same things.

Since ancient times the rosemary plant has been revered for it's medicinal properties. I've heard it was traditionally used to help with muscles that hurt (and I'm gonna try that!) as well as an immune system booster, to help promote hair growth, clear skin and healthy circulation. Pretty cool... And because of modern science we now know the essential oil in the plant has many antifungal, antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties, and it's probably most famously been tested for it's ability to assist in memory recall.

Did you know Rosemary is a member of the mint family? Makes sense, right? Kind of pungent. It's also a relative of oregano, thyme, basil, and lavender. (That's right...lavender is an herb!) Rosemary has long skinny leaves and can also have white, pink, or purple flowers. (I did not know that!)

I am loving this in my diffuser blends lately because of spring cleaning. I never thought I would appreciate an herbaceous smell so much, but it smells FRESH. Since it seems like we work on preparing our taxes forever (not really, I just draw out the torture) everything is blooming and my kids have a lot of testing at school, it's in like flint!  If you're interested in looking at the diffuser in the background you can see a video here, or with another good diffuser recommendation here in last year's Spring Diffuser Blend Eggstravaganza Post. :-)

Holy cow, I never thought this could smell SO good! You'd think of Tea tree, melaueca alternafolia, as smelling very earthy. OK - dirty, right? Maybe its because I've learned that some of the best spas diffuse Tea Tree, or maybe it's because of the facial cleansing wipes I've grown to love so much, but I LOVE this smell. This smells HEALING. Try it.

Wanna smell peppy, happy, fresh? ME TOO!!!

And this one was part of our DIY perfume post. I personally have to be feeling realllly worthy of diffusing the pricier oils, but if you have an occasion that calls for it this season, you might appreciate indulging in diffusing this blend too. I like this for deep emotional pain. Either that or hot romance...works for both. GOTTA LOVE VERSATILITY!

Have you ever wondered if you can diffuse Shutran?!? Haha! Yes, you can! Be warned though... Brown chicken brown cow. :-)

BE a part of the shift away from toxic mass made junk (that enriches the lives of CEOs and is no bueno for our bodies or our planet) and toward all that is naturally good! This is people helping people! If you don't have your own Young Living account, why not? No SSN is required and it probably costs less than you think! Let's change the statistics, friends!

Natural Easter Egg Coloring - Alternative Dye Ideas

Planning on dyeing Easter eggs this year? Try making colors from natural household ingredients! These awesome natural Easter Egg Coloring tips come from Rosalind Creasy of Los Altos California. Visit her page and see more of the LOVELY Easter eggs she created!

Dyeing and Decorating Tips

Use individual stainless steel, glass, or enamel saucepans for each color. Combine ingredients & boil each color mixture separately for 15 minutes before dyeing the eggs. The vinegar acts as a fixative — without it, the dyes won’t stick to the eggs.
  • For uniform color, strain each dye mixture through cheesecloth or a fine strainer.
  • For a mottled, tie-dyed or spotty effect, leave all the ingredients in the pans.
  • Use crayons to make designs — circles, geometrics, your name on the egg. The crayoned part will not take up any dye! White crayons work especially well.
  • The longer the eggs remain in the dye, the deeper the color.
  • For special effects, dip half the egg in one color and the other half in another.

Natural Dye Recipes for Easter Eggs:

Reds ~

2 c beets, grated
1 tbsp white vinegar
2 c water
Substitute: strong Red Zinger tea, or chopped fresh or frozen cranberries

Yellows & Golds ~

3 large handfuls of yellow/brown onion skins
1 tbsp white vinegar
3 c water
Substitute: strong chamomile tea, or 2 to 3 tbsp ground turmeric

Blues ~

1 lb frozen blueberries, crushed
1 tbsp white vinegar
2 c water
Substitute: red cabbage leaves, coarsely chopped, create lavender

Other colors ~

Mix combinations of the primary dyes (in separate cups) to make secondary colors: red and yellow for orange, yellow and blue for green, and blue and red for violet. The proportion of one color to the other determines the shade.

**a PS to this--I also heard spinach works for the green. If you try dyeing Easter eggs with natural colors this year we'd LOVE to see your results! Feel free to post your pics in the comments!

Nikki's amazing skin transformation...

A few weeks ago I saw an amazing transformation on Jihan Thomas' page and I would like to thank Nikki Kellogg for allowing me to share her story with you.

You probably know someone who struggled or who currently struggles with their skin, or maybe you do. To put it simply, it affects a person on levels far deeper than the skin, so a breakthrough like this is HUGE.

Like millions of others, Nikki tried practically every product ever sold, and sometimes she'd see an improvement, but the problem never went away. As you can expect, she was frustrated, feeling like she'd never have clear skin and of course, she was so, so self conscious.

I mentioned in the post about lavender tea tree facial cleansing wipes, the 'aha' moment came for me then, because I realized the things I was using to 'clear' my skin were actually the problem all those years, and FINALLY, I got rid of my cystic acne. (click to pin that story for later) This is what Nikki discovered too. Her body was likely reacting to chemicals in the products, which can be a double edged sword since our bodies detox through the skin. Talk about a vicious cycle...

We think feeling scrubbing & tingling means we're doing something good for our skin. Not always the case. In Nikki's case these chemical products sometimes caused her skin to burn, peel, and the worst case, even bleed.

Look out for that stuff offered by 'skin experts' in lab coats. They contain chemicals that fool our bodies, and in short...that ain't good! Anything appearing on our skin is often showing an outward sign of something going on INWARD. A company selling a product off a store shelf or in an infomercial isn't going to be able to address that, nor do they care to help people achieve whole body wellness.

Some companies are either trying to do better or just make it look like they're trying to better, but either way it's just not enough. For instance, I am seeing less triclosan and the likes in products we use today, but I see all kinds of other NEW junk. Endocrine disrupting junk. Have you heard what triclosan does? If not be sure to check that link. Unless of course puberty at age 9 or 'moobs' are cool with you. LOL! At least do yourself this huge favor - Google 'endocrine disruptors' and then come right back here... We'll wait. :-)

Mmmmk? Seriously, did you look? You need to see that. When you know what these things can do, you will understand why it is insanity to put anything like it on our skin! Our skin is our largest organ after all, and it takes in whatever is on it. (Hello, transdermal medicine patches? Yaaas, because the skin drinks it in!) Not all companies are evil, but man, a lot of them need an ---whooping! And we do that by not feeding our dollars to fat CEOs whose products are poisoning people and the planet! OK, off my soapbox...

Considering the society we live in, of course Nikki was totally skeptical about natural Young Living products and essential oils working for her, but maybe it was a blessing that she was at the end of her rope and she was really ready to try this. Thank God her sister asked her to give Young Living an honest effort, cuz...look at the difference!! Isn't it fabulous?!

Nikki does not put synthetic things on her face anymore. She only uses Young Living oil products that are great for her whole body. And now her skin is clear and just beautiful. What does that tell you?

These pictures are one year apart. Nikki's skin (and body) needed time to detox and return to balance with the right products. LOOK at that result!! WOW! That's worth any cost, time and effort right there, just in her appearance. But even more valuable is her confidence, her healthy body and what is NOT going down the drain into our ecosystem any more!

In case you haven't heard...Young Living Essential Oils WORK!
Nikki said, "I am so grateful to be using the purest oils you can find on the market today. The quality of these oils are a game changer, and the standards that are kept with each bottle guarantees consistent results each time you use them." That's the truth. No one's quality compares to Young Living, starting with the SEEDS we grow the plants with, and that's just the beginning.

Here's Nikki's own beautifully clear skin recipe, and a big thanks to Amy of Oils Are The Answer for putting this together.

12 drops of Frankincense (Young Living)
6 drops of Lavender (Young Living)
6 drops of Purification (Young Living)
12 drops of Tea Tree (Young Living)

4-6 drops of Melrose (Young Living)
4-6 drops of Eucalyptus Radiata (Young Living)

Add to a glass dropper with 144 drops of Jojoba oil (you can get your Jojoba anywhere, as long as its good quality. I like this brand

*Nikki's routine*

MORNING
1. Wash face with ART Gentle Cleanser or Orange Blossom facial wash
2. Then use ART Toner (only $24 with a Young Living account - mine lasts over a year)
3. Apply a thin layer of ART Light Moisturizer
4. Apply 5 drops of the oil blend on entire face (avoiding eye area)

BEDTIME
1. Wash face with ART Gentle Cleanser or Orange Blossom facial wash
2. Then use ART Toner
3. Apply 7 drops of the oil blend on entire face (avoiding eye area)

Another point to address is that for me, I did not connect my skin trouble with lack of moisturizer, and especially not with oil. I thought I should be drying it out. It took an esthetician a looong time to convince me any oil applied to my face was going to help. LOL. But it was a piece of the problem, and without it I was making my problems worse...huge leap of faith for me, too. A HEARTFELT thank you to Nikki Kellogg! So many people have an opportunity to make a life changing decision because of her bravery to post this, and like she said, "This is more important than any fear I may have." God bless this girl!!

Difference between refined and virgin coconut oil

I love coconut oil! Five years ago I hadn't even heard of it, and now I can't live with out it! There are so many ways to use it - cooking, baking and my number one body care ingredient. There’s a LOT of information available about how to use coconut oil for health at coconutoil.com and we share tons of ways to use coconut oil like in your coffee or tea and in your everyday care products like lip balm, body butter and sunscreen. So when we came across this from Nutiva we had to share!

What is the difference between Virgin and Refined Coconut Oil?
Let’s go over the basics:

Does Virgin Coconut Oil Taste the Same as Refined Coconut Oil?
One of the most immediate differences between Virgin and Refined Coconut Oil is the taste and aroma. While Virgin (unrefined) Coconut Oil boasts a delicious, tropical coconut scent and flavor, Refined Coconut Oil has a neutral scent and flavor. To make Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, fresh coconut meat is scooped out of the shell by hand, then cold pressed, leaving just the oil which has a pure coconut flavor.

Nutiva Organic Refined Coconut Oil is made from dried coconut meat, or copra. Unlike other companies that use harsh chemicals to produce refined coconut oil, we gently steam refine our oil to achieve a neutral-flavor. Because of our commitment to producing the highest quality products, this process is certified organic and uses absolutely no chemicals.

How Do I Use Refined Coconut Oil?
Coconut Oil can be used for baking, cooking and body & hair care. Luckily, Virgin and Refined Coconut Oil can be used interchangeably in recipes so you won’t have a problem switching between the two.

Because of the way Refined Coconut Oil is made, it has a higher smoke point (400 degrees) than Virgin Coconut Oil, making it great for sautéing, stir-frying and baking. Plus, the neutral flavor makes it ideal for recipes where a coconut flavor isn’t desired. Virgin Coconut Oil is best for medium heat cooking up to 350 degrees.

We hope this tips help. We have to help educate each other! You can click on any of the photos below to order coconut oil directly from Amazon. I DO buy mine by the gallon nowadays. I probably use about a third of that just in sugar scrubs, my favorite chemical free way to moisturize my skin! Right in the shower. ;-)

3 ideas to makeover the Shamrock Shake!

Oh this is YUMMY! Satisfying my sweet tooth today! :-) My shake didn't photograph very green, but it's actually a lovely shade of mint green. :-)

It ain't very green - or any of this either! Thanks to Foodbabe for this graphic...

I know those fast food shakes taste good, but it's hard to be excited about an ingredient list like that. Would ya like some Yellow number five with your corn syrup?! Eeek. There are a few good looking Shamrock Shake makeover recipes out there and I had all ingredients on hand to make one of them, except for spinach. I did have kale though! So I gave it a try and I give it a thumbs up!

I made a variation of the Young Living recipe below, swapping coconut milk for almond milk and 2 scoops of Balance Complete Protein Powder (which is vanilla) for 1 scoop of the Pure Protein Complete chocolate.

This recipe comes directly from the Young Living blog:

This breakfast tastes like a dessert but packs a punch with ingredients you won’t feel guilty about.

Spinach Protein Shake with Peppermint Vitality
Prep Time:  3 minutes
Calories per serving: 120
Protein per serving: 13g

1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 scoop Pure Protein Complete Chocolate Deluxe
1 drop Peppermint Vitality
1 handful spinach
12 ice cubes
Instructions
Place all ingredients in a blender.
Blend until smooth.
Serve!

Experiment with your smoothies by adding any combination of these essential oils:
Cinnamon Bark Vitality
Orange Vitality
Tangerine Vitality

****Important - DO NOT USE ESSENTIAL OIL IN A PLASTIC CONTAINER**** See what happens to your Ninja cups when you add oil to plastic --- > click here (4 pictures down)

Ya. So wait til you pour your shake into glass, THEN add your oils. Unless you have a fancy schmancy non-plastic mixer.

There are bazillions of ways to vary that recipe. I was in the mood for 'very vanilla with a hint of mint'. Here's what I used:

1 1/4 c coconut/almond milk blend (I like Califia farms)
1 c ice
2 scoops Balance Complete Shake mix
1/2 tsp homemade vanilla
a few kale leaves, just for color
5 drops liquid stevia (sweeten as you see fit)
3 drops Young Living Peppermint (it was strong, you may like less)

I was afraid to add too much Kale! LOL. Kale is a newish food for me that seems bitter sometimes, so I went light. Here's a pic with a 15 ml oil by it to show you... the scale of my kale! :-) Spinach, kale, whatever you have on hand - just a tad for the color or don't use any. You get to decide!

That shake was was really good. But now, I'm thinking I want to make it with Pure Protein Complete in chocolate and throw a flax brownie in it. YuUuUmmy!! That IS a dessert...
-------------------------------------------

Here's another version from The Well Oiled Life:

1 can coconut milk (I like Natural Value brand… it is pure coconut milk with no gums/thickeners, and it is in a BPA-free can!)
1 avocado
2-3 tbsp raw honey or other sweetener (adjust to taste)
5-7 drops Young Living Peppermint essential oil (adjust to taste)
1 tsp vanilla
1+ cups ice

I'd like to try that one, too! We have so many healthy oprions nowadays and I'm very grateful for that, aren't you? Be well!!

Anointed By Abba fan favorites - top 3 items February 2017

I want to pretend I'm surprised, but....nah. Top sellers last month were:

DIY Lingerie Sachets

Easy, simple and fabulous craft going on my list of things to do for a team make and take. I love this idea! Put one in your drawers... to make your drawers smell good! :-)

I took dried lavender flowers from a local market (plus a rosebud I saved and dried) and mixed with 8 drops of Young Living lavender in a stainless steel bowl. (It's best to use stainless or glass for all your essential oil creations!) Then just loaded the bag. How easy is that?

If you have dried flowers, use them! If not, now you know why you should save flowers in the future!! Just put them in a paper bag and store in a cool, dry place. They'll dry perfectly!

If you don't have dried lavender you can order it from Amazon. This brand came with great reviews and is from Provence, France. Provence is kind of famous for lavender, and I am humbled to know that when growers in France needed help reviving their crops they turned to Young Living. They knew that Gary Young had well-preserved the true lavender from that region.

http://amzn.to/2lqfKA4 8 oz organic food grade dried lavender flowers from Provence, France $13.01

If you'd like to buy dried roses, they're available on Amazon too. When I gathered the information for this post there were about 20 of these in stock and they sold out in a couple hours, BUT they are scheduled to come back in stock. Lots of romance out there!  http://amzn.to/2lqeCwa 1 lb dried rose petals (NOT food grade) $11.50

Another choice to buy from your couch - dried organic German chamomile $16.06 for
1 lb. http://amzn.to/2mQSKqG

The bags are affordable making these lingerie sachets a VERY inexpensive (but extremely lovely) gift. Check these out.

http://amzn.to/2mRecMj lavender purple with gold butterfly organza sachet bags 100 for $4.76

http://amzn.to/2lqqQVq rose pattern linen drawstring bags 20 for $12.49

And these excite me the most, because, well...scroll down. LAVENDER flower bunch STAMPS. (Giddy!) Imma get me some! If you're on Team Anointed By Abba, we are making these next make and take! http://amzn.to/2m8kg4L plain cotton drawstring bag 3 x 4 inch 50 for $7.88

http://amzn.to/2mR3eXl lavender flower stamp $8, plus $3.65 shipping

 http://amzn.to/2mDWwHm  Eiffel tower stamp $2.99

You can pick up an inexpensive stamp pad in simple black for under $3 here: http://amzn.to/2nnA4zr  I think the stamped idea would be even cuter than the organza...

It's pretty isn't it?! I'm smitten! A word of caution, though! Essential oils WILL harm finishes on wood. DO NOT rest a sachet with oil kissed flowers on a surface you care about!! They're fine to lay on right on your lingerie and unfinished wood.

Here's another thing we love to do with our lavender essential oil, lavender honey scrub. :-) (Another brand won't do!) But feel free to use the oils YOU love.

Does your husband need a sachet full of Joy? LOL! Here's a stamp for his sachet! http://amzn.to/2n3hQWz

BE the shift away from all the lab-created junk, and toward all that is instinctively good. We are helping to change the statistics that need changing! To order an oil or two, click ----> here.
