3 ideas to makeover the Shamrock Shake!

Oh this is YUMMY! Satisfying my sweet tooth today! :-) My shake didn't photograph very green, but it's actually a lovely shade of mint green. :-)

It ain't very green - or any of this either! Thanks to Foodbabe for this graphic...

I know those fast food shakes taste good, but it's hard to be excited about an ingredient list like that. Would ya like some Yellow number five with your corn syrup?! Eeek. There are a few good looking Shamrock Shake makeover recipes out there and I had all ingredients on hand to make one of them, except for spinach. I did have kale though! So I gave it a try and I give it a thumbs up!

I made a variation of the Young Living recipe below, swapping coconut milk for almond milk and 2 scoops of Balance Complete Protein Powder (which is vanilla) for 1 scoop of the Pure Protein Complete chocolate.

This breakfast tastes like a dessert but packs a punch with ingredients you won’t feel guilty about.

Spinach Protein Shake with Peppermint Vitality
Prep Time:  3 minutes
Calories per serving: 120
Protein per serving: 13g

1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 scoop Pure Protein Complete Chocolate Deluxe 
1 drop Peppermint Vitality 
1 handful spinach
12 ice cubes
Place all ingredients in a blender.
Blend until smooth.

Experiment with your smoothies by adding any combination of these essential oils:
Cinnamon Bark Vitality
Orange Vitality
Tangerine Vitality

Ya. So wait til you pour your shake into glass, THEN add your oils. Unless you have a fancy schmancy non-plastic mixer.

There are bazillions of ways to vary that recipe. I was in the mood for 'very vanilla with a hint of mint'. Here's what I used:

1 1/4 c coconut/almond milk blend (I like Califia farms)
1 c ice
2 scoops Balance Complete Shake mix
1/2 tsp homemade vanilla
a few kale leaves, just for color
5 drops liquid stevia (sweeten as you see fit)
3 drops Young Living Peppermint (it was strong, you may like less)

I was afraid to add too much Kale! LOL. Kale is a newish food for me that seems bitter sometimes, so I went light. Here's a pic with a 15 ml oil by it to show you... the scale of my kale! :-) Spinach, kale, whatever you have on hand - just a tad for the color or don't use any. You get to decide!

That shake was was really good. But now, I'm thinking I want to make it with Pure Protein Complete in chocolate and throw a flax brownie in it. YuUuUmmy!! That IS a dessert...

Here's another version from The Well Oiled Life: 

1 can coconut milk (I like Natural Value brand… it is pure coconut milk with no gums/thickeners, and it is in a BPA-free can!)
1 avocado
2-3 tbsp raw honey or other sweetener (adjust to taste)
5-7 drops Young Living Peppermint essential oil (adjust to taste)
1 tsp vanilla
1+ cups ice
